Zimbabwe

Our Zimbabwe-South private concession is situated alongside the breathtaking Limpopo River. This vast landscape is known for its big-tusked Elephant and shares unfenced borders with both Kruger National Park and Gonarezhou National Park. The biggest bull produced this past season weighed a staggering 96 pounds. We are also blessed with healthy numbers of leopards, with a fair quota released annually.

Through our conservation efforts and income generated by sustainable hunting, we are able to support and uplift local communities. Poverty has become the reality these people face every day and the situation is aggravated by regular human-wildlife conflict. Hunting addresses this problem and provides much-needed funding for social development programmes and in many cases, it also became the only source of protein they know.

Accommodation

We have two camps in Zimbabwe due to the large size of our hunting area. Our main camp is a rustic thatched roof camp on the banks of the Bubi River, set in a dense riverine forest. Here we have six ensuite chalets. Our fly camp has all the basic amenities one might need with spacious ensuite canvas tents on raised concrete slabs, each with a shower, toilet and basin.

Firearms And Ammunition

Documentation:

• We advise you to take out full insurance on all your firearms before travelling to Africa.

• For each firearm and all ammunition imported to Zimbabwe, hunters need to complete in duplicate, a Certificate To Possess Firearms (Form F.R. 20).

• Upon arriving at customs in Zimbabwe, present this form together with a copy of the Letter of Invitation which we will be sending to each client before travelling.

• Customs will issue the temporary import/export permit at the border or airport.

• Clients who visit or travel through South Africa first, would need to complete a South Africa Firearms Permit Application Form (SAPS 520) to obtain an import/export permit prior to their arrival. This might take up to two months to issue.

Rifles:

• You could hire from our large selection of rifles, or import your own.

• No limit on the number imported to Zimbabwe, but only 3 per hunter in South Africa.

• Black powder rifles and handguns are allowed.

• Not allowed: Automatic, semi-automatic or military category firearms.

Ammunition:

• Allowed: 100 rounds of ammunition per rifle imported.

• Make sure you only bring premium-quality, bonded bullets and “solids” for Elephant. Preferably from well-known reputable brands.

• Transport all ammunition in a lockable container, separate from your rifle.

Calibre:

• .375 H&H or larger for Elephant, Buffalo and Hippo.

• For big cats, crocodiles and plains game, anything in the high .30-calibre bracket will do well.

Bowhunting:

• To import, you need a special hunting permit at an additional fee.

• Allowed: Compound bow hunting on Private and Communal land.

• Not Allowed: Crossbows, recurve or longbows. Any bow hunting in National Parks or Government Controlled Hunting Areas.

PERMITS AND LICENCES

Prior to the hunt commencing, the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority has to issue a hunting permit to each hunter. Chasing Africa’s Sunset will obtain this on our client’s behalf. An additional, special permit is required for certain species like leopards, lions, elephants, crocodiles, etc.

Botswana

Known as the Land of the Giants, Botswana leads the way when it comes to hunting the African Elephant. The area also offers a range of other species, with exceptional Kudu and Bushbuck becoming a regular occurrence. Kalahari

Located about 12 miles from the Botswana border, and 137 miles from the nearest town of Vryburg, the Kalahari lodge is situated on 5000 acres of hunting area in picturesque and remote region of the North West Province of South Africa. While guests are not enjoying the pristine amenities of the luxury thatched lodge, they have access to 18 hunting species that graze freely on the farm. Both rifle and bow hunting options are available, while photographic safaris can be arranged for guests who prefer to shoot with their cameras. The hunting area also offers the opportunity to pursue the great African Lion.
